What is “My Two Cents”?

I wanted to take just a second to explore and explain the double-meaning of my blog’s title, so you know where I’m coming from when I write.  On the one hand, it holds the old colloquial meaning of “my opinion” or perhaps better ”my declaration, be it humble or not so humble, thrown on the pile of competing declarations out there”.  It’s hard to consider one’s bloggings to be of any more value in our age of web culture.  After all, what’s one weblog in a world of webformation, webertainment, webazines, webraries, and every other conceivable social media being cranked out (“pressed” :) ) every nanosecond on the internet? But, alas, I am happy to maintain an outlet and even a place for occasional discussion with the small group of folk who care to even read what I have to say (if you’re reading this, then you are especially awesome! :) ).

However, the title does hold a second meaning, which comes from a biblical event recorded in Mark 12:41-44 and Luke 21:1-4 .  Though it is not a direct application, it ties in the concept that, though it is meager in the world of blogdom, this is the best I can do at offering my voice to our world in this way in hopes of sharing what I pray is always a call back to truth.  Sometimes I feel compelled to raise a battle cry, other times to correct a common error, and still other times just to share an issue or interesting fact on my heart and mind.  I generally try not to spend my time on the internet writing about “trivial” matters (i.e. what I had for lunch… unless, of course, it also offers some kind of healthy corrective for a culture of horrible eating…you get the idea).  I also try to always consider whether my words here represent well those of a man trying to figure out and follow the Lord Jesus Christ.  Perfection is not what I mean so much as pursuit.  I do appreciate being challenged where this might not be evident (or worse, where evidence to the contrary exists).  Otherwise, I try not to be too concerned with my “image” as I’m writing so much as the articulation, authenticity, and accuracy of my words.  To this end I pray you will enjoy all that you find here as an inspiration to the same.
